Center Caps

Center caps cover the hub bore in the middle of the wheel. They are mostly cosmetic, but they do a real job too: they keep water, road salt and grit out of the hub bore and off the wheel mounting face, which is where corrosion causes wheels to seize onto hubs and makes a roadside tire change miserable.Center caps are specific to the wheel model, not to the vehicle, because the retention style and the cap diameter are designed around that particular wheel. Snap-in caps clip into the back of the wheel face. Threaded caps screw into a machined thread in the wheel and are common on off-road wheels where a snap-in cap would get knocked out. Bolt-on caps use small screws through the wheel face.When ordering a replacement, the number you need is usually cast or printed on the back of the original cap, along with the wheel manufacturer. If the cap is long gone, measure the outer diameter of the cap opening in the wheel and check the wheel model number stamped on the back of the spokes or on the barrel.
