Rugged-Terrain Tires

Rugged-terrain, sometimes labeled hybrid or X/T, is the newest of the truck tire categories and it exists because a lot of buyers wanted mud-terrain looks and off-road capability without accepting mud-terrain noise and wear. The tread pattern typically uses mud-terrain style outer shoulder blocks with a tighter, more continuous center rib that carries the load on the highway and keeps the noise down.In practice a rugged-terrain sits closer to a mud-terrain in appearance and closer to an all-terrain in daily manners. You get most of the aggressive sidewall styling, better rock and gravel bite than an all-terrain, tread life usually in the 40,000 to 50,000 mile range, and road noise that is present but not punishing.This is the right category if your truck is a daily driver you also take off pavement, if you want the look without the highway penalty, or if you tried a mud-terrain and could not live with it. It is the wrong category if you need genuine deep mud self-cleaning, where the tighter center tread will pack in.
