SUV Wheel and Tire Packages
SUV packages usually follow the plus-size approach rather than the lift-and-oversize approach used on trucks and Jeeps. The goal is a larger wheel with a shorter sidewall that keeps overall rolling diameter within about 3 percent of the factory tire, which keeps the speedometer, odometer, ABS and stability control calibrated and keeps the transmission shifting where the manufacturer intended. That 3 percent window is not an arbitrary rule. Modern SUVs read individual wheel speeds for traction control, stability control and, on all-wheel drive vehicles, for torque distribution. Get too far from stock rolling diameter and the vehicle starts making decisions based on wrong data. On full-time all-wheel drive systems, mismatched diameters between axles can also load up the center differential or transfer case.We calculate the correct tire size for the wheel diameter you want so you get the look without the side effects. Give us the year, model and trim, and whether the vehicle tows.
